"Keep the green in Greene County"
The Greene County ambulance service loses around $20,000 per month because of local underfunding for it. Although bingo charity gaming is a form of legalized gambling in the county, and the sheriff collects revenue from bingo halls for county services, none of that money goes to the emergency medical services (EMS). However, the sheriff occasionally donates to the service. The county commission provides some funding through a local property tax, it was set in 1983 and does not account for over 40 years of inflation.
Even though Greene County has a hospital, it has to find other jobs to make enough money to stay open. Those jobs include standing by at public events and helping out other counties with their transports.
